Hi, I wanted to get your opinion ^^
E. Lira
A player with a creative style, I use him in "normal" instructions and he has -9.5 when I look at his impact on short passes. But he has 33 in defence and 67 in passing, which is pretty balanced up to that point, so the surplus in technique ends up lowering his impact in Short Passes whereas for his set point he should be more like +0.5 or something like that since he has 1 point more than double in passing (main characteristic in normal set point) compared to defence. The technique, even if it's greater than half the passes, shouldn't make the player deficient in short passes, I think, as he's still in the normal set point?

After that, overtraining in technique boosts his NG, if everything was linear. For example, as I'm using it now, a normal creative style set point would be an NG of 66 (66 passes, 33 defence and 33 technique) and all the extra technique for style, but the NG is higher than 66 so it must have an impact at that level.

Combination of all three mentioned stats determine the overall rating of defensive midfielder, regardless of the individual instruction, except for "attack" (then it's attacking instead of defence, plus the other two).
So, yes, problem is overtraining in technique from a "normal" instruction point of view.

You'd have to put it in the individual "defend" box to get bonuses everywhere without any penalties anywhere

OK, I see, thank you.
So it's still best to have good old marker-style defenders that I can't really appreciate, rather than hybrid players with characteristics that make more sense for their position. Sorry, that makes me grumpy :p

Well, it's possible for a defensive midfielder to contribute to both creative and short passing bonus on "normal" individual instruction, e.g.
J. Granda (can play both defensive and offensive mid)
65 overall rating

  • 3.9 creative play
  • 13.2 short passing
(not much, but at least something)

Just promote them early and don't train them in defence

You don't need those defenders with high marking to achieve high bonus, I don't have them and I can have over 300 in bonus with short passing, you just have to willingly sacrifice a lot of their overall rating

I've also got 2 former MD MOCs who are a bit like me and who can be quite good at countering short passes by putting them on DFC: J. Dusseaux and A. Farai , that's a solution.

I've looked at the impact of the MD defending, and it's good for E. Lira , there's a contribution for the 2 styles, but for my other 2 it's neutral for short passes, not enough passes. But it's still interesting with more suitable players.

It's relatively simple, if the stat doesn't affect overall rating regarding position and individual instruction then it's "pure bonus", otherwise it's about other stats that affect overall rating and their importance (weighted). For example, some of my central defenders bring 36 to 42 bonus (short passing) when they are instructed to "participate in build-up" (high bonus because their power, tackling and most importantly defence is really low) and over 60 on "normal" instruction (I think that the highest possible bonus a player brings is when the stat that's not important to his overall rating is 99, currently 65.5)
