By having more matches, you should prolong a season which affects training, promotion period (current wait is I think 21 days) of young players from the academy and their progress (how fast they go to 100% so they can be promoted if aged over 16) in academy potentially and possibly many more things.
Also having championships with 20 teams would make it a lot harder for new teams to progress, in my opinion.
