At the start, the game will send you offers to buy your players for a few million; you should accept these as they’ll allow you to make a bit of money to develop your facilities and build a decent squad.

As for the players, their potential more or less determines the rating they can reach. But once they reach their maturity range, players will hardly improve at all.
So there’s no point in buying a 27-year-old player with 80 potential who currently has a NG of 20 – he won’t improve.
Of course, you also need to carry out team training every day.
