The 2026 Club World Cup has a new format, bringing together 32 teams from the six continental confederations. Here are the key rules:

*Qualification

• Teams qualify on the basis of their performances in continental competitions between 2024 and 2025.
• Each confederation has a specific number of places:
• UEFA (Europe): 12 teams
• CONMEBOL (South America): 6 teams
• AFC (Asia): 4 teams
• CAF (Africa): 4 teams
• CONCACAF (North, Central America and Caribbean): 4 teams
• OFC (Oceania): 1 team
• Host country (United States): 1 team

*Competition format

• The competition takes place in two phases:

1. Group stage: 8 groups of 4 teams, with home-and-away matches.
2. Knockout phase: the top two teams in each group qualify for the round of 16, followed by the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final.

*Specific rules

• Teams must submit a list of 26 to 35 players, including at least three goalkeepers.
• Coaches may enter up to 26 players per team sheet.
• In the event of a tie after 90 minutes, extra time is played, followed by a penalty shoot-out if necessary ¹ ².

The competition will be held from 30 November to 24 Mat 2025 in Germany, with matches taking place in 12 stadiums in 13 German cities.
