I'd noticed these auction players retiring during the season, but didn't have time to dig into it ....
When this topic was created (#forum?topic=167920) with a player link, I had fun clicking on the link every day.
Every day the player is in the auction, which is supposed to end at random times, because of course since it's a free, it goes into the auction when a manager clicks on it.
I've seen him 2 times at the free auctions, just so you know.

So, I tested it out, I targeted a player retiring from the frees and I bid ...
When the auction ends: no message from the VF league, you're not debited (thankfully), and the player goes back to the free.

I suppose, but I haven't dug any further, that this infernal cycle ends when the list of free players is only a few pages long and a newly-created club inherits the player ...
But in reality I'm not sure, because I've noticed that newly created clubs have players generated NG 25/30 of the same nationality as the manager (for better identification / impenetration, that's a good thing!)
So I'm leaning towards inactive clubs that we play friendlies against and that don't have an XI.

In short, I'm reassured that the rule protecting beginners from buying players who will disappear quickly is still in place.
On the other hand, it does pollute the auctions a bit, and it wastes their time because they're bidding on a player that nobody else will have.

You can't use the search module to find them, you have to search for them manually using the filter functions.
