The rules for the 17th edition are the same as those for the 16th edition, which has just concluded with Spain’s victory.
The deadline for playing your four qualifying matches in the first phase is 13 September.

The list of the 16 qualifiers will therefore be published on Monday 14 September (a supplementary list of four federations ranked 17th to 20th will also be published, and the four federations on this list will be placed on a waiting list in the event that any of the 16 qualified federations do not wish to enter the final phase draw.
On this point, I would like to remind you that this competition is optional and reserved solely for coaches who are motivated by the competition and wish to challenge one another.

Any federation that has played, or even simply scheduled, more than four matches by 13 September will not be eligible for qualification,......nor will any federation that has played fewer than four matches but has scheduled a match to be played after 13 September, as such scheduling would prevent the manual scheduling of matches for the second phase.
There will be no exceptions to this rule.

To put it plainly, if you wish to take part in the second phase of the competition, do not schedule any matches beyond 13 September and wait patiently for the manual scheduling; otherwise, you will not be included in the list of qualified federations.

I would like to remind you that the Federation module still contains a few residual bugs and that, unfortunately, we have no choice but to accept them and sometimes face the consequences in terms of the rules.
If you encounter any problems, please report them to me; I am here to make decisions in consultation with the admins to ensure that no one is disadvantaged.

Finally, I would like to remind you that the competition’s prize money is reserved solely for participants who actually take part in the second phase, in accordance with a scale that remains unchanged from the edition that has just ended, namely:
3 M to all qualifiers present in the final draw + 1 M per win in the second phase + prizes for those who make it onto the podium, namely: 12 M to the winner, 5 M to the runner-up and 3 M to the winner of the third-place play-off.

The top 16 federations have qualified for the second phase, subject to their coach’s acceptance by 3.00 pm on Wednesday at the latest.
The draw for the round of 16 and the entire second phase will be published on Wednesday evening.
The federations ranked 17th to 20th are therefore on the waiting list in the event that any federation ranked 1st to 16th withdraws.

All team managers (including those ranked 17th to 20th) must confirm their intention to participate and their acceptance of the rules set out below.

Reminder: federations that have played or scheduled more than four matches are excluded from the rankings, as are those participating in another competition (e.g. the Africa Cup of Nations).

The 16 selected federations must publish their list of 22 selected players by 12 noon on Saturday at the latest for verification and approval prior to the round of 16 matches, which will take place on Sunday 20 September.

I don’t understand – two seasons ago, Tuvalu were disqualified because of a bug relating to free agents; last season, the United States were disqualified for breaching the rules because they had two players from the same club. Looking at the list of qualifiers, I can see several federations that, during the qualifiers, failed to comply with the rule on the number of players from the same club. Is it enough simply to remove the extra players at the end for the rule not to be taken into account?

Reminder: the format of the submission is flexible, but must include at least the following:

• the player’s full name
• their club
• and their affiliation (if applicable), with a breakdown of the number of players per affiliation.
  It is possible, but not compulsory, to include a link to the player’s profile and their position.

Reminder:

• You may submit a list of fewer than 22 players if you wish.
• It is not possible to include players who have not completed 100 per cent of their training.
• You are not permitted to select more than one player per club or more than five players per partnership (including sister partnerships); this applies even in the event of transfers during the competition
• You will not be able to amend your squad during the competition (which is why it is recommended, though not compulsory, to include two goalkeepers).
• The presence (even on the bench without coming on as a substitute) of an ineligible player will result in a forfeit.

Very important:
I would like to remind you, particularly those who are new to this competition, that matches are scheduled manually and that, unlike in the first phase, squad selections are not automatic; you must make them manually once your match has been created.
Please note that there is a bug (which may have been fixed, I’m not sure) which has in the past led to last-minute call-ups (less than an hour before the match) resulting in players failing to turn up, so please do make your call-ups in good time; otherwise, you risk forfeiting the match.

Prize money will be paid out at the end of the competition. The amounts are the same as last season’s.
