I was at the CAN in CIV and I was in Morocco last January, I was also at the stadium during the final and I can confirm that we are very far from the best edition in history, if not the worst with this tragic decision for African football. The CAF Africa Cup of Nations in the Ivory Coast was much better in terms of football alone and the bias of the officials during the matches. I'm not even talking about the general atmosphere during the competition on and off the pitch.
The whole circus of the Senegalese players arriving in Rabat without security, the refereeing fiasco during the final (goal unfairly disallowed and penalty invented) and 2 months later giving a decision unprecedented in the history of football only discredits the CAN, African football and Morocco. Motsepe just doesn't have the courage (at the beck and call of Lekjaa and Infantino) to say no, so he has created this imbroglio so that CAS can invalidate their decision just as empty-handedly.
Senegal will keep their second star, earned and deserved on the pitch, and apart from a moment of immense embarrassment for Africa and Morocco, this whole circus will have served no purpose.
