I've never thought much about it and I've always gone with fluid.
From how I interpreted descriptions, I'd say that it depends on different situations in a match. According to my interpretation, fluid will decrease your overall stats in defense, but it will be spread more equally on the left, right and center, so I guess if your opponent has an edge over your defense down the wings, it wouldn't be "unwise" to try and play fluid.

I don't know, I've always played fluid, so can't back up what I'd said, that's just how I see it.
